Donald Trump is poised to win New York in a landslide on Tuesday but he could leave as many as two-dozen critical delegates on the table by failing to win an outright majority in every corner of the state, according to new congressional district-level polling provided to POLITICO.

The survey from Republican firm Optimus Consulting shows Trump doubling his next closest competitor, John Kasich, 49 percent to 24 percent, with Ted Cruz far behind with 14 percent.

The panel of eight experts FiveThirtyEight assembled projected Trump to wind up with 1,208 by the time California and four other states finished counting their votes on June 7, a number that would leave him tantalizingly close to clinching the Republican presidential nomination — probably close enough that he’d be able to get over the hump by persuading some uncommitted delegates to come his way before the convention.

Nationally, Donald Trump still has a double digit lead over his nearest competitor Ted Cruz, but his margin over Cruz has decreased. Now, 42 percent of Republican primary voters nationally would like to see Donald Trump as the Republican Party’s nominee, while 29 percent support Ted Cruz, and 18 percent back John Kasich.

On Tuesday, Missouri Secretary of State Jason Kander tweeted: “This morning I certified the presidential preference primary. @HillaryClinton and @realDonaldTrump have officially won Missouri.”
