Don Huffines to chair Rand Paul’s Texas campaign

State Sen. Don Huffines, R-Dallas, will head Rand Paul’s presidential campaign in Texas.

It is not the first time Paul and Huffines have crossed paths. Both politicians have a strong “libertarian hinge”, and they’ve campaigned together before.

In October 2014, Rand Paul was a political asset for Mitch McConnell. McConnell, then Senate minority leader, was in the last stages of a reelection fight against Allison Lundergan Grimes, and the pitch he made to Kentucky voters was a simple one: I am a very powerful man, and if I become majority leader, I’ll be even more powerful, which will be good for Kentucky.

The Republican nomination fight continues to be dominated by political newcomers Donald Trump and Ben Carson. In Iowa, Carson has moved up to tie Trump.

In South Carolina and New Hampshire, there is Donald Trump with a large lead, and then there is everyone else.

With unimpressive poll numbers, precarious fundraising totals, and an anti-establishment message suddenly dwarfed by the success of outsider candidates, Rand Paul’s presidential campaign has been placed on death watch.
